An expansion or isolation joint creates separation where concrete needs room to move beside another slab or structure. Failed joint material can admit water and debris and leave a rough, open edge.
Sealing can help limit water and debris entry in a suitable, stable crack. It does not restore missing support or correct a slab that is actively moving or vertically displaced.
